The 1st National Medical Student Paediatric Conference (NMSPC) will be held at Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) on bank holiday weekend 5 May to 6 May 2012. This event will be hosted by BSMS Paediatric Society in combination with BrightMed (the BSMS widening access scheme, the year 12 cohort will be joining as delegates) and is supported by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
The first conference of its kind titled Journey through Paediatrics sees the introduction of Embryology by Professor Darrell Evans (Professor of Developmental Tissue Biology, Associate Dean BSMS). The programme will follow with exciting lectures by leading figures from both the Medical School and the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust (BSUH) including Professor Somnath Mukhopadhyay (Chair in Paediatrics) detailing important respiratory conditions and Mr. Edward Kiely (Consultant Paediatric Surgeon) from Great Ormond Street.
The full programme featuring all clinicians from BSUH and external Trusts; detailing neonatal, medical and surgical Paediatric conditions will be made available on this page by the end of February.
We are privileged to be hosting highly distinguished speakers, and also host a platform for patients and families of patients to express their experiences within the field which collectively promises to make this an inspiring and enlightening event.
Alongside the lectures, we are also hosting useful workshops to teach Neonatal and Paediatric life support skills and seminars where topics such as; training programs in the UK and abroad, community Paediatrics and hospice care will be covered.
Every poster title submitted by 15 April 2012 by delegates will be invited to present posters at the conference. One conference prize will be awarded to the most impressive submission, as judged by our faculty.
Food and refreshments will be provided throughout both days. A delegate social at Brighton’s Grand hotel will take place on Saturday 5 May, with special guest Dr Keir Shiels (BBC’s Junior Doctors: Your life in their hands)
