Rethinking Global Health

About this session

This event is part of the BSMS20 celebrations, in collaboration with the University of Sussex, University of Brighton, and IDS.

Global Health is one of the growing areas of research strength within BSMS and through the symposium, we would like to bring a range of perspectives to bear on “Rethinking Global Health”. We will ask: What does decolonising mean?; Whose agenda is it?; How do we do it, and why?

Centred around the overarching theme of "Rethinking Global Health", our symposium intends to cover the following critical domains; 'Challenges of new digital technologies', 'Decolonial approaches to Global Health Methods', 'Geopolitics and Regulations', and 'Humanitarian crises and climate change’. Please join us for this free, all day, collaborative event.

The day will start with a keynote presentation from Professor Seye Abimbola. Presentations on the domains above have been selected from abstracts submitted and will be delivered in parallel sessions before lunch. You are invited to choose one of two breakout rooms, and encouraged to take part in the discussions arising. Domains will be summarised after lunch, and panellists including Prof Patricia Kingori, Dr Arianne Shahvisi and Dr Caroline Khene will synthesise these reflections.

We welcome you to this exciting event designed to showcase the inclusive ethos of Brighton and Sussex Medical School’s 20th anniversary festivities.
