BSMS graduate wins Nuclear Medicine prize

BSMS 2009 graduate, Anita Wale (pictured right), was recently awarded the Young Investigators Prize by the British Nuclear Medicine Society.
Her paper, ‘Accuracy and potential cost effectiveness of 99m-Tc-Methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) scintigraphy for the assessment of thyroid nodules in the context of the British Thyroid Association (BTA) guidelines’, was written in collaboration with colleagues at the Brighton and Sussex Universities NHS Trust.
She says:
"I’m thrilled to have won the Young Investigator’s Prize. I’ve always been really proud of having graduated from BSMS and to have continued collaborations started within medical school to perform this research. I have been very lucky to be so well supported and encouraged by excellent clinicians who also sit on the BSMS faculty. I first became interested in imaging during and student selected component at medical school, and the experiences gained during my individual research project at BSMS really began developing my passion for, and skills in, research. I am really looking forward to beginning my radiology training in London and my years as a medical student and foundation doctor in Brighton have prepared me really well."
Wale's supervisor, Dr Sabina Dizdarevic of the Brighton and Sussex Universities NHS Trust (pictured left) says:
“She has made us all proud and fully deserves the Young Investigator Prize. Once again she proves that hard work, commitment and dedication result in success. She is research driven and the best academics are the best clinicians too, as only through constant search for knowledge you can deliver the best quality of the service to your patients as well. The project has to be good to be selected, but is up to an investigator to shine with 'star quality’ and present the work in the best possible way, which she did.”
