Art and Medicine at the Brighton Festival Fringe
BSMS appeared at the 2011 Brighton Festival Fringe, with Art and Medicine.
Innovative artworks created by students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, using installation, performance, intervention, sculpture, painting, photography, video and digital media as a means of communicating ideas about medicine and bio-medical science. Works by professional artists involved with the medical school were shown, plus a new series of works by students making art with microbes.
The symposium focused on the relationship of art and medicine viewed from many perspectives. Speakers included leading experts in the fields of art and science alongside students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School whose work was featured in the accompanying "Art and Medicine" exhibition. Brighton and Sussex Medical School has worked on collaborative projects with several high profile artists.
