
The Institute of Postgraduate Medicine (IPGM) was founded by the University of Brighton in 2000 and entered into a partnership with Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) in 2006.
Our academic team contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at BSMS and also to the research output of the school.
Postgraduate Taught Courses at IPGM
IPGM offers a range of full-time and part-time taught postgraduate courses at Masters level in subjects relevant to medicine and health care and the delivery of the national curriculum framework for specialist training.
Courses are modular and lead to the following awards:
- Masters - successful completion of six taught modules plus a 16,000 word dissertation
- Postgraduate Diploma - successful completion of six taught modules
- Postgraduate Certificate - successful completion of three modules
Unless otherwise stated, each module requires 200 hours of student effort, mainly through independent study and is worth 20 Masters level credits.
Health professionals working in the NHS contribute to the content, delivery and development of IPGM's modules and courses:
- ensuring that content is up to date and appropriate for practising professionals
- taking a major role in the delivery and leadership of modules
- providing a link to local health organisations
- advising course leaders and teams
- supervising aspects of student work
