Sexual health conference hosted by BSMS

Sexual health conference hosted by BSMS and BSUH NHS Trust

Raising awareness of sexual health research is the aim of a one-day conference being held in Brighton in October.

The conference, held every year on different topics, is being hosted by the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust (BSUH).

The organisers are hoping to foster new research collaborations by showcasing university-based research activities in bite-sized snippets, covering topics including education, testing and treatment.

Clinicians, researchers and voluntary organisations will make poster presentations, and guest speakers will focus on subjects including cultural theory, the use of the internet as an intervention tool and local advancements in the world of testing.

The University of Sussex Mass Observation Unit will also share its archives on historical studies which shed light on post-war sexual attitudes.

Caroline Brooks, from BSMS, said: “We are hoping the symposium will provide a networking opportunity for those working in the field of sexual health and that it will help cement local relationships.”

The conference, open to everyone, will be at the Audrey Emerton Building in Eastern Road, opposite the Royal Sussex County Hospital, on 1 October, between 9am and 5pm. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Caroline Brooks, email: c.e.brooks@bsms.ac.uk or telephone: 01273 641924.
