Teaching focus:
'I am particularly interested in developing young people’s interest in elderly care and geriatric research. I want them to see the extent to which research can make a significant difference to this area of medicine. I aim to illustrate how important it is to focus on improving the quality of people’s lives rather than just prolonging them.'
Research focus:
Research portfolio includes:
- cardiovascular laboratory-based research into the ageing process of arteries
- epidemiology research into hypertension and ethnic differences in cardiovascular risk factors
- hospital-based research focusing on the use of probiotics in the prevention of hospital acquired infections in the elderly.
- reviewing living wills and end of life decisions for the elderly - he has already published on this subject in prestigious journals such as BMJ.
