Teaching focus:

I teach epidemiological principles and research methods, cancer epidemiology, and public health medicine to medical and postgraduate students, clinicians, and public health practitioners. At BSMS my responsibilities as discipline leader for Population Medicine (PopMed) include curriculum development, planning and administration of teaching activities, identifying and training appropriately qualified faculty to teach the subject, and setting exams/assessments. I supervise students’ research projects and train SpR/SpT in academic public health. I also design and conduct postgraduate courses in research methods in epidemiology, scientific writing, and epidemiology for public health practice.

Public health practice:

I have a clinical contract with the Brighton and Hove City Teaching Primary Care Trust for which I provide public health service and advice relevant to the NHS. In this role I contribute to the Integrated Team Work Plans for Mental Health (suicide prevention), Substance Misuse (alcohol) and Primary Care, and provide advice on public health knowledge, standards and practice. I also contribute to the work in health needs analysis, clinical effectiveness, clinical audit and programme evaluation, and review and interpretation of epidemiological / public health literature to support evidence-based practice.
