cell and developmental biology research area

At BSMS, we are carrying out exciting, state-of-the art research into fundamental mechanisms of cell and developmental biology which are applicable to medicine. This includes basic research on stem cells, cell signalling and cancer.

Dr Tim Chevassut’s group is engaged in research involving stem cells and blood cancers focussing on the molecular changes that occur during cancer progression. Further research is being conducted by Dr Sarah Newbury and team which involves the development of a diagnostic test for one of these blood cancers.

Professor Darrell Evans’ group is investigating the movement and integration of cells during the formation and repair of musculoskeletal tissues.

Dr Sarah Newbury’s group is working on fundamental mechanisms of gene regulation and how they control stem cell renewal, cell movement (such as occurs during wound healing) and cell proliferation.

Research in Dr Sandra Sacre’s lab focussed on toll-like receptor signalling and the molecular mechanisms that underlie chronic inflammatory diseases.
