Rheumatology is committed to patient care, research, and education in the areas of arthritis and autoimmune disease.
Current research studies range from laboratory based investigation, clinical imaging and epidemiology through to clinical trials. Together these projects seek to improve our understanding of disease mechanisms and treatment strategies with the ultimate aim of translating cutting edge research into clinical practice. These goals are facilitated by the Clinical Investigation Research Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital; a dedicated unit providing specialised technical support for clinical investigations and patient-centred research. Our imaging research is prosecuted in the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre.
In addition to the active research programme, rheumatology at BSMS provides training opportunities for British and international students and research fellows.
