New undergraduate course for BSMS

BSMS is to expand its range of undergraduate courses into other health-related areas with the addition of BSc Healthcare Science – Medical Physics, due to start in September
2010, subject to validation by our partner universities.
This forms part of the plans by BSMS and both universities to develop undergraduate and postgraduate provision in the field of healthcare science. BSMS is very well-placed to develop a programme in medical physics, having chairs in imaging, medical physics and applied physiology.
The aim of the course is to bridge the gap between medical physicists and nuclear medicine physicians, by including tuition in applied physiology, molecular and cell biology, together with interaction with patients in a clinical setting.
Director of Undergraduate Education Dr Inam Haq, said
"This is an exciting opportunity for BSMS and our parent universities to further develop our undergraduate portfolio in healthcare science. The Medical Physics programme will also be an excellent example of interdisciplinary collaboration, using expertise from BSMS, UoB, UoS and BSUH Trust. The course content will also be informed by the successful research taking place at BSMS in the fields of imaging, imaging physics and physiology.”
