Course tops National Student Survey again

Brighton and Sussex Medical School shared top National Student Survey rankings for the second year running, as 95% of final year students said that they were satisfied with the quality of the course.

The Medical School also achieved the second highest overall score for any higher education institution in the UK.

Professor Darrell Evans, Associate Dean at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, said: “This is obviously great news as we have worked very hard with students to provide an effective learning experience. We are really proud of the new doctors we are producing.”

Professor Evans said much of the success was down to working hand-in-hand with students in developing the course. He said: “We have always encouraged feedback and responded to it and this has helped forge a joint approach to creating this effective learning experience.”

Satisfaction rates were also high for various elements of the course including:

100% finding the course intellectually stimulating.

98% stating that staff made the course interesting.

97% saying that staff were good at explaining.

97% satisfied with access to general IT resources when needed.

96% finding that staff were enthusiastic about teaching.

96% considered library resources and services as meeting their needs.

95% being able to contact staff when they needed to.

95% finding that their communication skills improved as a result of this course.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is a census of students in their final year of a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications across the UK.

Full results will be available in September from www.unitstats.com.
