All candidates must take the United Kingdom Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) the summer before applying. Please check the UKCAT website if you are from a country that is exempt. However, please note that if you are from an exempt country, you are still required to contact UKCAT directly, who will issue you with an exemption number via email.

All candidates must have grades B in GCSE Maths and English (or their equivalent). Please contact us to check if any qualifications you may have already obtained are acceptable equivalents.

If your qualification is not listed please contact us for clarification on your academic eligibility. To check if you meet the entry requirements for Medicine BM BS, email us ideally with a scanned attachment of your qualification(s), otherwise please email clearly stating:

  • your country
  • the name of your school or college
  • the name of the qualification you are taking / have taken
  • your grade / marks (if appropriate)

Australia

You must have Year 12 subject grades of grade A in Chemistry and Biology in addition to the scores outlined below, all of which must be achieved in a single sitting:

Capital Territory and New South Wales: Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of at least 98.5

Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia: Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) score of at least 98.5.

Queensland: Overall Position of 1

Victoria: Victorian Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER) of at least 98.5.

Bulgaria

Pass Diploma Za Sredno Obrazovanie with 6 in all subjects to include both Biology and Chemistry.

Canada

Alberta (General High School Diploma): At least 90% in 6 grade 12 subjects including Chemistry and Biology

British Columbia (Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma): at least 90% in 6 grade 12 subjects including Chemistry and Biology

Ontario (Ontario Secondary School Diploma): at least 90% in 6 grade 12 U, U/C or M courses including both Biology and Chemistry

Canadian degrees: GPA of at least 3.5 overall.

China 

Pass University College Graduation Diploma with exceptional grades. BSMS would need to see translated copies of your transcripts. In addition grades A at Chemistry and Biology A level (or their equivalent) will be required.

Cyprus

Pass Apolytirion of Lykeion with at least 19/20 in addition to A level grades A in both Chemistry and Biology.

European Baccalaureate

 At least 85% overall including at least 8.5 in both Chemistry and Biology.

Finland

 Pass Ylioppilastatkinto (Finnish Matriculation Exam) with at least 6 overall including at least 6 in both Biology and Chemistry subjects.

France

Pass French Baccalaureate (including OIB) with at least 14 overall in the French Baccalaureate including 14 Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Germany

Pass Abitur with 1,3 or better overall, including at least 14 in both Chemistry and Biology.

Greece

 Pass Apolytirion of Eniaion Lykeion/ Apolytirion of Lykeio with at least 19/20. In addition you will also need grades A in A level Chemistry and Biology.

India

Pass Higher/Senior Secondary Certificate Standard XII (CBSE, CISCE, Gujurat, Karnataka, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal state boards all considered) with at least 85% overall including at least 85% in both Chemistry and Biology.

International Baccalaureate

Pass the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 38 points overall, including at least 18 points in three Higher Level subjects. You must have studied Biology and Chemistry to Higher Level and obtained grade 6 in both.

Italy 

Pass Diploma di Esame di Stato (‘scientifica’ stream) with at least 95% overall including at least 95% in both Biology & Chemistry.

Norway

 Pass Vitnemal: den Videregaende Skole with an overall average of 6 to include grade 6 in both Chemistry and Biology.

Pakistan

 Pass Intermediate or Higher Secondary School Certificate (also known as FA/FSC) with at least 70% overall and supplement with grades A in A level Chemistry and Biology.

Degree: BSMS would need to see transcripts of your degree studies. You can send these in before applying so we can confirm your academic eligibility. As a general rule a Division I pass in a Bachelor degree (Pass or Honours) would be required including Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Portugal

Pass Certificado de fim de Estudios Secundarios/Diploma de Ensino Secundario with at least 18 overall and at least scores of 18 in both Chemistry and Biology.

Romania

Pass Diploma De Bacalaureat with an overall score of 8, including a score of 9 in both Biology, Chemistry and one other subject.  If you can only take either Biology or Chemistry within your Diploma De Bacalaureat you will need to obtain the other subject in another recognised qualification (ie A level).

Spain

 Pass the Bachillerato/Titulo de Bachiller with at least 8.5 overall including 8 in both Chemistry and Biology.

Sweden

Pass Avgangsbetyg with most subjects including Chemistry and Biology at MVG level. However BSMS will need to see a full list of the subjects (and results) taken to date as well as which subjects are still outstanding, if still studying.

USA

Pass High School Graduation Diploma with at least 3.5. In addition, if AP Tests are offered, BSMS require atleast 4/5 in at least one AP Test subject and 5/5 in 3 additional AP Test subjects which must include Chemistry and Biology. If SATs are offered BSMS require 650 in at least 3 subjects (which must include Chemistry and Biology).

ACT Programme and Associate Degrees will also be considered in addition to any one of the qualifications above.

Degree:  GPA of at least 3.5 overall.
