Visiting CISC

Visiting us

CISC is based at the University of Sussex in Falmer, approximately 4 miles (6 km) north east of Brighton city centre. You can reach us by train (Falmer Station) or by local buses 23, 25 and 5B.

If coming by car, the Falmer junction is on the A27 road between Brighton and Lewes. If you are heading east (towards Lewes), exit the A27 at Falmer and turn left at the first roundabout into the campus. If you are heading west (towards Brighton), exit at the Falmer Junction, turn right (second exit) at mini roundabout, then continue over the bridge and straight on at next roundabout.

There are a number of visitor car parks on campus. The closest and largest is the Science car park (P1). Parking is £6 for six hours – Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm – or £2.50 for up to two hours.

By train

The nearest train station is Falmer.

Go under the underpass. To your left is a bus stop (Falmer Station bus stop) where you can pick up any one of the following buses and will not be charged: 23, 25, 5B. There is also an alternative walking route indicated in on the map.

Visitors travelling via London and the west need to change trains at Brighton Station for Falmer – the journey to Falmer Station from Brighton takes about nine minutes.

Falmer Station is well served by frequent local trains that run between Brighton and Lewes. You can also travel to Falmer Station from London and the east via Lewes.

By car

The Falmer junction for both campuses is on the A27 road between Brighton and Lewes, about four miles (six kilometres) from the centre of Brighton.

From BRIGHTON

Take the slip road off the A27 marked B2123 Falmer / Rottingdean

At the roundabout turn left (first exit) marked University of Sussex North / Falmer. You are now on Knights Gate Road.

Take the first left onto Southern Ring Road and first right onto Science Park Road, then immediately turn right into the Knight’s Gate Road car park. There are a number of dedicated spaces for CISC patients. If this car park is full then proceed down into Science Car Park 1 and continue for about 100 meters. The Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) is on your right up the slope.

PARKING CHARGES: Parking charges apply for all car parking areas with the exception of disabled parking permit holders. Special arrangements have been made for patients attending for scans at CISC to purchase a £2.50 scratch card parking ticket from our Reception staff, and are valid for more than 2 hours. (Please bring the exact money with you. – Thank you).


From LEWES

Take the slip road off the A27 marked B2123 Falmer / Rottingdean.

At the mini roundabout turn Right (second exit). This will take you over the bridge crossing the A27. Go straight over the next roundabout. You are now on Knights Gate Road.

Take the first left into Southern Ring Road and first right onto Science Park Road, then immediately turn right into the Knight’s Gate Road car park There are a number of dedicated spaces for CISC patients. If this car park is full then proceed down into Science Car Park 1 and continue for about 100 meters. The Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) is on your right up the slope.

PARKING: In the event that there are no parking spaces, or you have a Disabled parking permit, turn right up the slope into the small car park in front of CISC.  PARKING CHARGES – See above.

By bus

The following buses will bring you directly onto the campus:  23, 25, 5B.

The nearest bus stop to the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) is on the Eastern Ring Road (Science Park Road bus stop). Cross over the road and follow the path down towards Shore C, turning left at the bottom for CISC.

By taxi

Taxis are available at Brighton and Lewes Railway Stations and in central Brighton. There is no taxi service at Falmer Station.

It is about four miles (six kilometres) from the centre of Brighton to the University of Sussex. Please note that traffic in Brighton can be congested and it is often quicker to take the train to and from Falmer (journey time about nine minutes).
