About this session
Adam Davis, Lecturer in Paramedic Science at the University of Brighton, will be talking about the paramedic role as a whole, and where you may find paramedics working now. There will be a short overview of some of the skillsets involved in para-medicine. There will also be discussion surrounding what the paramedic brings to the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in terms of experience from working in the pre-hospital environment. Adam will also talk about the Paramedic Science BSc course at the University of Brighton and some of the entry criteria.
Adam has been in post at the University of Brighton for just over a year. He had previously served in the London Ambulance Service as a Tactical Response Paramedic, a specialist role working closely with general and specialist police units. He trained in a multitude of roles to respond to and command the initial phases of major incidents; once substantive command had been established, Adam would then be redeployed as a forward clinical asset. Adam is currently serving in the British Army as a reservist, where he is working toward the role of Combat Medical Technician within an infantry unit. He had previously served and has recently rejoined. He has also worked in a university role previously at St. George's, University of London, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate levels for para-medicine and MDTs, mainly focusing on trauma and critical care. His area of interest within this role is inter-disciplinary and inter-agency working. He also has a keen interest in crew resource management and mindset, with a focus toward performance under stress.
