Sussex Health and Care Research Partnership
The Sussex Health and Care Research Partnership (SHCRP), established by Brighton and Sussex Medical School, is an exciting initiative bringing together health and care research partners across Sussex. Across the partnership we will develop opportunities for shared research infrastructure, capacity building and collaboration to ensure each partner organisation realises their research ambitions. The SHCRP will develop a shared, unique profile for health and care research, to deliver more, higher quality research with greater opportunities for our local population to participate in research which impacts directly on their care.

Our Sussex Health and Care Research Strategy
This is the first research strategy for the Sussex Health and Care System. It has been co-developed by all NHS, local authority, academic and research partners, with input and insight from members of our Strategic Public and Community Advisory Group. It sets out our collective vision for health and care research for the next five years.

Mission statement and aims
The Sussex Health and Care Research Partnership aims to integrate the research infrastructure for Brighton and Sussex in an intuitive user focused collaborative network to provide a seamless, logical and pragmatic supportive environment, and a single front door to support all research development and delivery needs.
It will work together to:
- Raise the profile of health research across the partnership and strengthen the support for clinical researchers and academics
- Harness the strategic alignment of all partners to improve health and care through increased participation and delivery of clinical research within the partner organisations
- Work strategically and proactively to take advantage of the research and infrastructure opportunities within the NIHR landscape and beyond
- Work with research groups and centres to support their planned growth and increase rate and value of application and successful grants
- Co-ordinate and support early career researchers and doctoral students in health and social care research as well as training and events for staff to build awareness and capacity amongst academics and clinicians
- Support individuals and organisations to gain funding for clinical research and ensure that funds are appropriately directed, bids include infrastructure costs where possible, and investments are made to ensure support and expertise is available to secure the delivery of funded research as contracted and to build capacity
- Support public and community involvement and engagement in research at all levels

Governance and structure
SHCRP Governance Structure
The Sussex Health & Care Research Partnership (SHCRP) brings together research-active NHS providers, local authorities, academic, public and communities and NIHR partners to work towards a system-wide integrated and sustainable research infrastructure and culture of practice-embedded research.
The Partnership’s goals are to facilitate high impact research and achieve research-driven improvements in population health, health and care services and outcomes for patients, services users and the broader community. This is the vision set out in the Sussex Health and Care Research Strategy: Improving Lives Together Through Research.
The work of the HCRP will be overseen by a Board, chaired by the Chief Medical Officer of NHS Sussex. Day-to-day delivery of the HCRP work will be the responsibility of the HCRP executive.
The organisational structure of the HCRP is illustrated below.

Health and Care Research Training Hub
The Health & Care Research Training Hub is a new initiative that has been created to strengthen our expanding community of talented and innovative researchers.
This hub is a single point of contact for advice, best practices, and information on health and care academic research careers and recruitment to research fellowships. It will provide access to training and development for academic clinical practitioners and health and social care professionals at all stages of their academic journey.
