UK students

We expect to have 193 places for new UK entrants in September 2023.

You may sit BMAT in September or November 2023.

Step 2

Submit your application to UCAS by 15 October 2022.

Step 3

Once candidates submit their UCAS application, our admissions team will email all applicants inviting them to activate and access the University of Brighton applicant area. They will also email to invite applicants to submit any evidence of contextual data. The admissions team will then review applications. Applicants meeting or predicted to meet our academic requirements will be ranked by their BMAT score, with the top ranking candidates invited to interview.

Please note that we will not consider applicants whose BMAT scores do not fulfil ALL of the following criteria:

  • Section one: a score of at least 3 or higher

Step 4

Admissions interviews will take place in January 2023.

These interviews will be taking place remotely via the Zoom videoconferencing software, as they did in 2021 and 2022.

Zoom’s breakout rooms function allows us to run MMIs in a similar manner as we would ordinarily in-person, consisting of five discussion stations with a variety of interviewers.

You can see an example of an MMI discussion (held in-person) by watching the video below.

To prepare for the MMIs, you may wish to reflect on your work experience referring to the skills and values attributes needed to study medicine published by the Medical Schools Council.

Step 7

Qualification results are confirmed in August 2023. Candidates whose offers match their results are confirmed.

Remote interviews 2022

The end of February 2022 saw the end of the BSMS Remote Interviews for 2022, ending a process which began back in October with the decisions on which dates to interview, as well as recruitment of interviewers and student ambassadors began.

Since then, and particularly throughout January, nearly 500 UK students and roughly 80 overseas applicants have been vying for a place in BSMS’s 2022 cohort.

It’s an incredibly fulfilling experience to be part of the BSMS admissions interview process and getting to meet so many aspiring medics aiming to make a positive contribution both to our institution and to the NHS in general has been a joy to behold. The interviews, however, can’t happen without the help of an amazing roster of interviewers from across BSMS faculty, professional services and associated NHS Trusts, to whom we owe immense gratitude!

Additionally, we’ve been incredibly lucky to lean on a committed and versatile group of nearly 100 student helpers, who worked tirelessly on the days themselves to ensure that the experience for both candidates and interviewers was as smooth as possible. On what can be an incredibly daunting day for any prospective medical student, our current cohort served in making candidates feel welcomed and at ease.

For more information on the BSMS interviews, and how they fit into our admissions process more generally, see the details above.

Open days

The BSMS open days will give you the opportunity to look around, meet students and staff and ask questions.
