Mosawer gives us the advice he wishes he’d had in the past as an aspiring medical student.

What made you want to study Medicine?

I wanted to study medicine because I am interested in human biology and how the body works. I also enjoy problem solving which is another reason medicine appeals to me. It’s a bit like detective work where you look at clues such as symptoms, examinations and investigations to get a diagnosis. I like that medicine lets you keep learning while also doing something that actually helps people.

How did you choose which medical schools to apply to?

I looked at the med schools’ websites and also narrowed it down based on what my BMAT and UCAT scores were.

What made you want to study at BSMS?

They give early clinical teaching and also have a spiral curriculum.

Top Tips for UCAT

Practice early with question banks and check your answers to understand where you went wrong.

Any tips for interviews?

Have a bottle of water and don’t always rush into answering a question. Take some time to think.

If you could go back in time to give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

The application process is very long so try not to leave anything last minute. Also try to enjoy the process.

Any advice for managing the transition to university?

Experiment with different revision and learning techniques. Ask your peers in older year groups for advice!

Describe your medical school experience in three words:

Exciting, insightful, challenging.
