LGBTQ+ History Month 2022

February is LGBTQ+ History Month, an annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans & non-binary history.

In the UK it is celebrated in February each year, to coincide with the 2003 abolition of Section 28, a law passed in 1988 by the UK government that stopped councils and schools: ‘promoting the teaching of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.’ Below we have shared some resources to mark LGBTQ+ History month.

UK Medical Schools Charter on So-Called LGBTQ+ ‘Conversion Therapy’

Based on the work of the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding, this charter calls for UK medical schools to condemn the use of, and support the banning of, so-called LGBTQ+ ‘conversion therapy’ in the UK. The charter also outlines commitments that medical schools can make to support LGBTQ+ students, staff, and patients. BSMS is one of the first signatories on the charter, led by Dr Duncan Shrewsbury, Senior Lecturer (Honorary Consultant) in General Practice. Read the charter here >
