BSMS Library supports the learning, teaching and research of students, staff and researchers at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Our librarians bring specialist knowledge and expertise in healthcare information and are committed to helping you develop the skills you need to succeed in your studies, clinical practice and research.
The mission of BSMS Library is to provide an excellent service to support the learning, teaching and research objectives of the medical school by:
- Enhancing research skills, information skills, and digital literacy skills through a tailored programme of accessible, reflective and embedded in-person and online teaching
- Providing inclusive, relevant, reliable and high-quality health and medical information resources in both print and digital formats, available at the point of need
- Offering an approachable, knowledgeable and equitable service that supports the aims of our partner institutions
BSMS Library works in partnership with the University of Brighton, University of Sussex, and University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust to ensure a joined-up approach to library provision. These library spaces provide:
- Silent and quiet floors
- Individual and group study areas
- PCs and Macs
- Charging points for personal devices
- Eduroam WiFi
- Printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
- Books, academic and professional journals, and anatomical models
BSMS Library is aligned with the NHS England Knowledge for Healthcare framework, which commits “to provide a service that enables… the right knowledge and evidence, at the right time, in the right place, enabling high-quality decision-making, learning, research and innovation, to achieve excellent healthcare and health improvement.”
In the 2025 National Student Survey, 93% of BSMS students rated our library services positively, placing us above the national average.
