BSMS is a partnership of the Universities of Brighton and Sussex, so each student is a member of both universities. Each brings a strong reputation in medical-related sciences which contributes to the course.

University of Brighton

The University of Brighton is a community of over 23,000 students and 2,600 staff based on five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings. It has one of the best teaching quality ratings in the UK and a strong research record.

The university's origins can be traced back to the mid-19th century in Brighton. Since university designation in 1992, it has grown steadily. The university's performance in a range of external assessments of teaching quality is consistently strong.

The university's specialism in pharmacy, pharmacology and biomedical sciences contributes to the BSMS programme.

University of Sussex

The University of Sussex was the first of the new wave of universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in August 1961. Fifty years on, it has become a leading teaching and research institution.

The Times Higher Education magazine's World University Rankings continues to rank Sussex high on the list in the UK, Europe and  the world, setting them alongside some of the world's most prestigious institutions.

Its specialist reputation in life sciences, psychology, biomedical sciences and neuroscience contributes to BSMS programme delivery, as does work in the Human Genome Centre and Sussex Centre for Consciousness Science.
