Biography

Kanwal is a social anthropologist with an interest in ‘lived experiences’ of social and health care. She is a part-time research fellow based at the Brighton and Sussex Medical school working on a project that explores ‘Supporting the food and drink-related quality of life of older adults living at home’. 

Research

Kanwal’s research has focused on children, young people, and older family members to explore experiences of migration, mental health and social inequalities. Her approach has been to work in collaboration and partnerships with schools, museums, charities. She is committed to increasing inclusivity in research using creative participatory methods and co-production.

Teaching

Kanwal has over fifteen years teaching experience, having designed and delivered a broad range of sociology and research methods modules through lectures, seminars, and workshops. Illustrative examples of topics covered include Childhood across Cultures; Transnational Migration and Diaspora; Emotions and Society.  She also has experience of supervising undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral students.
