About this session

In this talk, Dr Cooke will discuss the field of perinatal psychiatry, explain what it is, why it is important, and what NHS Perinatal Mental Health Services do. Jennifer will talk about her job, how she came to work in the field and why she enjoys it.

Dr Cooke qualified in 2000 from Southampton University Medical School, and after postgraduate psychiatric training at Guy's, King's and St Thomas', has been practising as a consultant psychiatrist working in the NHS in Brighton and Sussex since 2012. After working on an acute female inpatient unit in Sussex for 2 years, Dr Cooke was involved in developing perinatal mental health services across the country and has been a consultant perinatal psychiatrist and clinical lead for the Sussex Partnership Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service since 2016.

Dr Cooke has a strong interest in education and training, at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and for the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She is an honorary assistant professor at BSMS, involved in undergraduate interviews, and clinical training for third- and fifth-year medical students. She is also the faculty lead for the Sussex Perinatal Mental Health Simulation training course.

This talk is part of the BSMS Outreach Monthly Lecture Series and will be conducted via Zoom. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide certificates of attendance for this event.
