Medical school top UK institution in Young University Rankings

BSMS was ranked 47th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, making it the top placed UK institution in the rankings. The medical school is a partnership between the Universities of Brighton and Sussex and local NHS providers.

The Young University Rankings are part of a suite of THE tables focused on universities that, unlike many of the world's top-ranked universities, do not have centuries of history or tradition. They are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but the weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation. In the Millennials list BSMS was ranked 11th, and received the top citation impact, which is a measure of a university's research influence. The Millennials list is a subset of the main list that includes all institutions founded since the year 2000, and features 36 universities from 23 countries.

Professor Malcolm Reed, Dean of BSMS, said: “I’m delighted with BSMS being in the top 50 in these global rankings. As a young medical school we work hard to ensure our students have an extremely positive experience with us, and graduate as doctors well-prepared to provide the best possible care for their patients. Our top ranking in research influence demonstrates that along with our teaching, our research is having real impact and influence.”

The 2018 young table includes 250 universities, up from 200 in 2017.
