A new version of the clinical case-based learning resource Capsule has been released. The system has undergone a complete rebuild, modernising the look and feel of the software while enhancing usability and capacity for both web and mobile app platforms.
Developed by Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and digital developer Ocasta, Capsule is a unique learning resource that delivers interactive clinical cases with extensive feedback to support the application of medical knowledge to the practice setting. It contains 700+ cases and 3,700 questions, all written by senior clinicians, and is mapped to the GMC curriculum and Medical Licensing Assessment.

Capsule is now being used by 40,000 students at more than 15 medical schools and on Physician Associate courses.
Tim Vincent, Senior Learning Technologist at BSMS, said: “This new version of Capsule is a fantastic investment that brings greater functionality for students and greatly enhances the platform as a teaching tool for educators. It brings accessibility improvements for all users and paves the way for future enhancements that we look forward to releasing.”
Based on feedback from students and staff, the new version delivers many enhancements including the way questions, answers and scoring are presented along with improved search functions. A new Case Progress report increases students' insights into their performance, allowing them to target their studies more accurately. Significant improvements on the staff side of Capsule mean that tutors can now create and share 'recommended' quizzes with students as specific learning activities to support teaching live sessions. Enhanced analytics enables tutors to view either individual student progress or cohort progress: They can now look up an individual student’s performance, offering the chance to intervene at an earlier stage if someone is falling behind; and they can now also monitor progress at the cohort level to gain greater insight into relative performance and engagement levels.
Capsule is available to any medical school or clinical course - find out more via the link below.
