Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) welcomed Mr Andrew Blackman, Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, for a private visit to the school’s anatomy facilities on Wednesday 24 September.
During the visit, Mr Blackman explored the BSMS anatomy suite, learning how students combine traditional dissection with innovative digital tools such as ultrasound, 3D imaging and interactive virtual reality resources. He was given a guided tour of the facilities and met staff and final year medical student Enya Costin.

Claire Smith, Professor of Anatomy at BSMS, said: “It was a privilege to have been nominated by The Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex earlier in the year for the Royal Garden Party, so to have the opportunity to share in person our facilities and teaching approach with the Lord-Lieutenant was fantastic. Our blend of dissection and advanced digital resources gives students, and qualified professionals a world-class foundation in anatomy, which underpins medicine.”
Mr Blackman praised the work of BSMS staff and students, noting the importance of innovative approaches in preparing the next generation of doctors.
This visit highlights BSMS’s ongoing commitment to excellence in medical education and its role in advancing healthcare training in the South East.
