Professor Anjum Memon, Chair in Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine at BSMS, has been awarded the Service Medal by the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK.
The award recognises Professor Memon's outstanding contributions to the Faculty through leadership, education and training, policy and advocacy, and workforce development. It celebrates sustained commitment to advancing the public health profession and supporting the Faculty's mission of improving and protecting population health in the UK and internationally.
The FPH is the professional membership and standard-setting body for public health professionals in the UK and globally.
Professor Memon received the award in recognition of more than two decades of dedicated service to the Faculty across a wide range of professional, educational and leadership roles. His contributions have helped shape public health education, strengthen the public health workforce, support professional standards, and advance the Faculty's strategic priorities.

As a founding member of the Public Health Educators in UK Medical Schools (PHEMS) Network, Professor Memon has played a significant role in advancing undergraduate public health education across the UK. He has provided leadership and guidance in public health teaching, learning and assessment, contributed to FPH and GMC guidance, and helped develop the Undergraduate Public Health Curriculum for UK Medical Schools. He has also served the Faculty in a wide range of roles, including Accredited Assessor, Part A Membership Examiner, Board Member, Faculty Advisor, Portfolio Assessor, and member of several Faculty committees and special interest groups.
In 2021, Professor Memon was awarded a Faculty commendation certificate for making an outstanding contribution to protecting the public's health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commenting on the award, Professor Memon said: "I am deeply honoured to receive the Faculty of Public Health Service Medal. Over the years, I have had the privilege of contributing to the Faculty's work in medical education, professional standards, workforce development, governance and international engagement. These experiences have been both rewarding and inspiring, and I am grateful to the many colleagues and mentors with whom I have worked. To receive this recognition from my peers is particularly meaningful, and I remain committed to supporting the advancement of public health science and the next generation of public health professionals."
