BSMS Period Dignity Scheme and Menstrual Health Work for Athena Swan Gender Equality Charter
A BSMS Athena Swan Gold commitment is to actively tackle barriers related to gender equality through the promotion and delivery of International Women’s Day (IWD) events and campaigns, to continue to promote our ‘Inspirational Women’ series and increase the visibility of staff from marginalised groups. BSMS has also committed to increasing funding for resources linked to the Period Dignity initiative across all BSMS estates. This includes offering free reusable period products to all first-year medical students who menstruate during Freshers week. This initiative has been rolled out in 2024/25 and 2025/26, and we have also donated period products to a student Gynaecological Conference.
BSMS seeks to expand our commitment to tackling barriers related to women’s health through the development and implementation of a menstruation policy.
