Tell us a bit about your background

The majority of my background comes in retail. I worked at Sainsbury’s for seven and a half years, then I had a short stint as a freelance writer doing some literary and music reviews, and prior to starting here I worked as a Medical Secretary at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

What’s your role like day-to-day?

My day-to-day role is fairly variable; it can be supporting face-to-face or online teaching, helping facilitate and plan future teaching, helping with student queries. The only constants would be my bad jokes and slightly off-key singing.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

The aspects I most enjoy is helping students, even if it’s with basic queries, and my colleagues; I’m blessed to work with brilliant people, not just in my office, but across the whole third floor of the Watson Building! I particularly enjoy any opportunity I get to work with colleagues, whether this is helping coordinate projects/events or staring blankly at a spreadsheet together.

How do you contribute to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment at work?

I like to think I contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment by always being approachable and empathetic, listening actively and offering support- whether to fellow staff or students, and communicating professionally, but authentically. I’m a big believer in small acts of kindness and trying to make other people’s lives easier where possible. I was proud to help co-coordinate Inclusion Health Day which was held at BSMS in June; it’s a brilliant and incredibly meaningful event, and something I was proud to be a part of!

Tell us something about you that most people don’t know about you?

Most people may not know this but I’m a student myself. I’m studying an English Literature and Creative Writing degree part-time with the Open University, for which I am currently in my sixth and final year. If you ever see me looking tired, then this will be why! I’m contemplating going on to do a Master's.

What are your other interests / hobbies?

In my spare time I’m very keen on exercise and I’m a keen runner! I also enjoy baking, reading, going to gigs or festivals, anything related to cricket and I’m a big animal lover!
