These courses focus on subjects that promote the personal and professional development of participants across a variety of disciplines and specialities. BSMS CPD provides a wide variety of short courses and workshops throughout the year. clinical education

Clinical/Educational Supervisor Course

This one day course is aimed at all HEESE medical staff and is run by Brighton & Sussex Medical School and Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. Course enquiries should be addressed to DME@bsms.ac.uk.

Effective Presentations Training

This short training session highlights ways to make your teaching presentations more effective by understanding how the visuals can heighten the impact. Participants learn how to apply evidence-based theories of learning in practical ways while picking up a range of digital tools to enhance learning inside and outside the classroom. This content was developed as part of our TIME course, and is suitable for all individuals involved in teaching in a healthcare environment. Personal and Professional Workshops 

BSMS run a variety of personal and professional development workshops on an on-demand basis, both on campus and at external venues across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Register your interest by emailing cpd@bsms.ac.uk.

Research Skills Workshops

These short workshops are designed to introduce participants to the skills required for systematic and qualitative research at postgraduate level. While these are aimed primarily at postgraduates studying or working at University of Brighton or University of Sussex, other interested parties can register their interest by emailing cpd@bsms.ac.uk.

TIME Course

The Teaching and Innovation in Medical Education (TIME) course is a series of one-day training events designed to enhance the teaching skills of doctors and health professionals. This course has been developed by BSMS to support individuals who are (or will be) involved in teaching our students at undergraduate or postgraduate level. This course runs throughout the year. Attendance is free to eligible individuals.  

The course covers the following topics:

  • Understanding the BSMS curriculum and structure
  • Theories of teaching and learning for small or large groups
  • Learning how to give effective feedback to learners and how to evaluate your teaching
  • Use of social media in teaching
  • Use of new technologies to enhance learning and teaching
