Dr Iris Asllani
Associate Professor

Iris Asllani currently holds a dual appointment with the University of Sussex, UK, where she is a Associate Professor at the Clinical Imaging Science Centre, and with the Rochester Institute of Technology, USA, where she heads the Integrated NeuroImaging Lab housed in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The overall focus of her research is the development and implementation of physiological MRI methods for quantitative assessment of brain metabolism under healthy and disease conditions. More recently, the focus of her research has shifted towards integrating non-MRI systems – tDCS, NIRS, and EEG– with MRI for a comprehensive assessment of cerebral oxygen metabolism.

Dr Nick Dowell
Senior Lecturer in Imaging Physics

Dr Nicholas Dowell's role involves the development of quantitative imaging techniques that can provide non-invasive biomarkers of disease progression or recovery. He has worked on developing a method to reliably quantify subtle leakage in the blood-brain barrier. He has also worked on measuring oxygenation of the vitreous humour in the eye of patients who have undergone a vitrectomy. He is also working on applying diffusion MRI and quantitative magnetization transfer MRI to a number of applications to study the composition and organization of white matter in the brain.

Dr Samira Bouyagoub
Research Fellow

Dr Bouyagoub is a researcher with a background in Engineering, Image and video processing, and quantitative MRI. In February 2015, Samira moved to BSMS to join the Medical Physics team at the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) where she is carrying out research on quantitative MRI. She also provides software and hardware support and maintenance for the fMRI research equipment at CISC, both for stimuli and recording physiological signals.
