In light of the Government guidance on Covid-19, we’ve made the difficult decision to suspend all face-to-face student, research & Alzheimer’s Society visits until further notice.
Where possible, students are being asked to complete their next family visit via the telephone.
Over the coming weeks the team at Alzheimer’s Society will be contacting all Time for Dementia
Families by phone to offer ensure families welfare and offer any signposting.

Time for Dementia at Brighton & Sussex Medical School clocks up more than 1,400 student visits since the start of the programme in 2015. Members of the Time for Dementia team travelled to University of Plymouth to introduce the Medicine and Nursing teams there to the programme.
The Time for Dementia Programme Board met to discuss the progress of the programme at all five sites. The fifth cohort of Nursing and Paramedic students is inducted into the programme at University of Surrey. The first cohort of January intake Nursing students is inducted into the programme at University of Brighton.

The second cohort of nursing students at Canterbury Christ Church University are inducted into the programme.
BSMS in conjunction with medical student Aparnaa Velayudhan, run an art competition for medical students on the theme of health as part of Aparnaa's The Brush on a Mission charity. Many of the entires drew on the students' experiences of dementia and the winning entry won a £250 prize. The top three entries will be printed on notebooks which Aparnaa is selling, with all proceeds going to Alzheimer;s Society - www.thebrushonamission.com

The second cohort of students at University of Greenwich are inducted into the programme. This includes Nursing, Paramedic and Speech & Language Therapy students.
The Time for Dementia Pathway Leads from University of Surrey, University of Brighton, University of Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church University meet with the BSMS team to review the Implementation Manual which will be used by other universities to help them set up Time for Dementia as part of their own courses.
The third cohort of Physiotherapy students a University of Brighton are inducted into the programme.
Two members of the Time for Dementia team gave a talk on the programme at the 14th UK Dementia Congress 2019, held in Doncaster.
The first Time for Dementia Family Advisory Group is held in Surrey with participant families from the University of Surrey. The group discussed different aspects of the programme and made some great suggestions on how to improve the students' preparation. Their suggestions will go to the Time for Dementia Programme Board in December 2019.

The sixth cohort of medical students at Brighton & Sussex Medical School are inducted into the programme.

Time for Dementia is included in the World Alzheimer's Report 2019. This includes comments from a Nursing student and a person living with dementia. on their experience of Time for Dementia.

21st September marks World Alzheimer's Day. The Time for Dementia team mark this by launching it's new website.

The Time for Dementia team at Alzheimer's Society work hard to recruit all the families needed to start our new cohorts of students in the 2019/2020 academic year.

BSMS is preparing for its next cohort of students and participant families to start the Time for Dementia programme in October 2019. When asked if they would like to continue with a new set of students, more than two thirds of families from the previous cohort said yes. This is a great indication of how much our participant families enjoy taking part in the programme. We are also extremely grateful to all the families for making the programme possible by agreeing to take part.

The Time for Dementia team marked Dementia Action Week 2019 by creating 188 new Dementia Friends amongst the students and staff across the five university sites.
Time for Dementia featured in the BBC One South East Today programme, lunchtime news.
BSMS marked the end of their fourth cohort of students and families by holding the BSMS Time for Dementia Symposium. This was attended by 121 students and 14 people living with dementia and their carers. The day included a presentation from Professor Sube Banerjee on the findings of the evaluation so far, a question and answer session with a lovely family involved in the Time for Dementia programme and small group workshops where both students and family participants got the chance to share and reflect on their experiences of taking part in the programme.
