September 2020

Calling all BSMS Alumni, the Outreach team at BSMS are restarting their Monthly Lecture Series in Autumn 2020 and they are on the lookout for speakers!

The Monthly Lecture Series is designed to explore a variety of medical topics, whilst inspiring and promoting the aspirations of local secondary school pupils. Talks were previously held on the Universities of Brighton and Sussex campuses at Falmer however, given the current situation with COVID-19, these talks will now move to being hosted on a virtual platform. As such, this also means we are now able to open these talks up to secondary school and college students to attend from anywhere in the world.

Previous topics covered in the talks have included medical ethics, General Practice and 'A Day in the Life of a Medical Student', recordings of which can be found on our facebook page.

View our BSMS lecture series videos here >

The topic of your talk can be anything of your choosing as long as it is medically related and can be adapted to be age appropriate for students aged 11-18.

At present, these are the available dates for the 2020-21 academic year, with all talks being scheduled for the evening of the following dates:

  • Wednesday 7th October

  • Wednesday 4th November - Speaker confirmed (title pending)

  • Wednesday 6th January

  • Wednesday 3rd February

  • Wednesday 3rd March

  • Wednesday 7th April

  • Wednesday 5th May

  • Wednesday 9th June

  • Wednesday 7th July

If you would be interested in delivering a lecture for the Monthly Lecture Series please email our Widening Participation and Recruitment Coordinator, Alice Long - a.long@bsms.ac.uk with your topic of interest, or any ideas.

January 2018

Congratulations to BSMS aluma, Samantha Fossey, who gave birth to her daughter Zoe at 00:12am on 1 January, making her Sussex's first baby of 2018! Her delighted mother Samantha and father Elan are convinced she wanted to join their New Year's celebrations - even though the expectant couple were not preparing for too wild a night.

Nikhil Nanavati has passed his FRCS Tr and Orthopaedic surgery exam. "I consider it a privilege to have studied at BSMS," Nikhil said. "The enthusiastic and well-structured training I received as an undergraduate has provided me with a platform to build my postgraduate career as a future orthopaedic surgeon. I will always be grateful for the opportunity afforded to me by the medical school and have no doubt it is one of the best in the country."
