BSMS’ new Multiprofessional Fellowship Programme offers a regional approach to multiprofessional learning, supporting fellows from a range of clinical backgrounds including doctors, nurses and allied health care professionals.
The programme, which is supported by Health Education England working across Kent, Surrey and Sussex (HEE KSS) and managed by BSMS, aims to work in system facing teams to bring about service improvement and establish collaborative networks in five key priority topic areas:
- advanced practice
- differential attainment
- digital skills in healthcare practice
- technology-enhanced learning
- leadership development
Fellowship applications are welcome from those employed in the NHS or local authorities, with flexible start dates and protected time to complete the Programme.
Participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in learning communities with other fellows, with support through reflective action learning groups to develop the skills needed for analytical dialogue and collaboration.
There will also be project-based learning through active investigation of real-workplace challenges and problems to deliver developments in one or more of the five key topic areas. And the programme offers a bespoke education that fellows can shape themselves, as a PGCert in Clinical Professional Studies or PGCert in Healthcare Leadership and Commissioning, or specific stand-alone modules.
Dr Seán Perera, a GP and Specialty Doctor in Sexual Health & HIV Medicine and one of the very first fellows on the programme said: “The fellowship combines bespoke education, networking with other fellows from diverse backgrounds and a project that addresses a real-workplace challenge.
"I’m really enjoying it so far – it’s been great to meet so many people and apply my learning to benefit the healthcare system that I’m working in.”
Dr Jackie Knight, Senior Lecturer at BSMS and Programme Director, believes the fellowship offers eye-opening opportunities for both fellows and healthcare systems, adding: "The Multiprofessional Fellowship Programme will take fellows on a transformative innovation-learning journey. The opportunity to learn inter-professionally and undertake pathways of study which embed advancing practice will help transform healthcare system redesign."
