Become a host practice for virtual clinical education (VCE)
BSMS are currently piloting the use of ‘Smart Glasses’ for consultations, to stream to larger groups of students who would be based at their school/study area.
‘Smart Glasses’, worn by the GP, are equipped with integrated cameras that transmit a live video feed from the clinicians' point of view. This technology enables students to observe consultations and medical procedures in real time, offering a direct, immersive perspective of clinical practice.
The Virtual Clinical Experience (VCE™) is a digital platform specifically developed to support remote medical education. It integrates live-streaming capabilities with medical diagnostic tools to create an interactive and authentic learning environment for students.
Through VCE, students gain access to live clinical encounters in GP through a combination of technologies. These include smart glasses for visual streaming, a digital stethoscope that transmits real-time cardiac sounds, and an otoscope that provides high-resolution imagery of the ear canal. This combination of technologies facilitates a comprehensive, multisensory learning experience that closely mirrors in-person clinical observation.
Once this is ready to roll-out we would be interested to hear from you if you are able to run these sessions from your practice. More information around IT set-up, governance, data protection and confidentiality will be added here as this project is launched.
