Cancer epidemiology

Cancer epidemiology

The overall objective of the project is to identify emerging trends, evaluate impact of interventions, inform public health policy and raise awareness about cancer prevention and control.

BACKGROUND IMAGE FOR PANEL

About the project

(i) To collect and analyse large datasets related to cancer incidence, prevalence, survival and mortality to study the occurrence, distribution, and trends in incidence/mortality of different types of cancers within specific populations. This involves examining factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status to understand patterns of cancer. Estimating the burden of cancer also guides NHS resource allocation for primary and secondary prevention, treatment, and cancer support services.

(ii) To design and conduct observational studies to investigate causes and risk factors of cancer. These factors include genetic predisposition, lifestyle factors (i.e., smoking, alcohol, diet, and physical activity), environmental exposures (e.g., radiation, pollution), occupational hazards, and infectious agents.

The overall objective of the project is to identify emerging trends, evaluate impact of interventions, inform public health policy and raise awareness about cancer prevention and control.
