Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is expanding its continuing professional development (CPD) offer with a range of new programmes designed to support professionals across the health and social care sectors.
Complementing BSMS's existing postgraduate taught courses, the new provision forms part of the BSMS Strategic Plan 2030 and strengthens the School's contribution to workforce development across the region.
For the 2026/27 academic year, there are four new offerings:
- ‘Enhancing Enhance’: Online and in person education and training to support the development of generalist skills amongst Foundation Trainees across the South East
- Patient and Carer Experience: delivering safe, equitable, high quality care: An online offer developed as a direct response to learning from major healthcare inquiries and reviews. Learn more here >
- Primary Care Provider Collaborative Leadership Development Programme: A practical, applied CPD programme for experienced professionals working in a fast-moving and complex health and care environment
- Supporting Public Health Trainees and Practitioners across the KSS region: Alongside our more traditional postgraduate taught offerings, BSMS is delivering three pathways that complement and bridge academic excellence and professional practice:
- Flexible Academic Offer: Alongside our core PG Cert/PG Dip/MSc courses we also provide standalone modules from across the BSMS module portfolio. These flexible routes allow practitioners to study alongside their current roles
- Whole-Sector KSS Continuing Professional Development (CPD): This year-long programme strengthens our sector relationships and brings fresh, real-world insights directly back into our classrooms
- Portfolio Development Support: A dedicated, funded stream providing tailored mentorship for practitioners working towards their formal public health registration.
Supporting the expansion is Jane Lodge, BSMS Lead for Partnerships and CPD, who is working to develop the School's CPD strategy and strengthen engagement with partners across the health and social care sector. Jane welcomes discussions about new CPD ideas and opportunities for collaboration and can be contacted by email at: j.lodge@bsms.ac.uk.
