What does living with motor neurone disease look like? Art therapy in practice
The video below was created as part of an exhibition, organised by the Sussex MND Care and Research Network and BSMS, which showcased the work produced by people affected by MND that they created during art therapy. The participants discuss the impact that art therapy has had on them and their families and carers.
How the MND art therapy project came about
The art therapy project was set up with funding from the West Sussex South Branch of the MND association in 2020. Since 2024, the East Sussex branch also funds sessions for people affected by MND.
The project's mission statement
To enable those with MND and their wider circle of people, to creatively express the experience of their every day lives. The project aims to:
- Engage people with MND in a personal creative experience
- Allow those involved with the people with MND to add to this experience
- Develop expression through the collection of drawings, art, words and artefacts in whatever form they may take
- Exhibit some of this work on the MND website
- Exhibit some of this work as an exhibition in a local venue
